Ukraine urges UN measures to settle situation in Kosovo

KIEV, July 15 (Itar-Tass) - A Ukrainian diplomat in the U.N. has expressed concern about continuing violence and terror against ethnic minorities in Kosovo, primarily Kosovo Serbs, and increasingly frequent attacks on international personnel.

Ukrainian deputy representative to the U.N. Security Council Valery Kuchinsky urged the U.N. Mission in Kosovo and KFOR to take decisive measures in order to stop these actions, the Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

Speaking at a U.N. Security Council meeting which discussed the latest events in Kosovo and UNMIK and KFOR activities in the province, he said the protection of the basic human rights for all ethnic groups, primarily the right to life, is a necessary prerequisite for turning Kosovo into "a peaceful and tolerant, democratic and self-governing province within the FRY".

The diplomat confirmed Ukraine's readiness to send a special police force to Kosovo in the near future.
