Russia may reconsider its participation in Kosovo operation
MOSCOW, March 9 (Itar-Tass) - Russia may reconsider the degree of its participation in the Kosovo peacekeeping operation, Colonel General Leonid Ivashov, head of the chief department for international military cooperation of the Russian Defence Ministry, said at a briefing on Thursday.
"If the situation becomes irreversible, i.e. if Resolution No.1244 of the U.N. Security Council and other basic documents on the Kosovo settlement are undermined, we shall not take part in this process," he stressed.
At the same time, Ivashov said that Russia did not mean to withdraw from Kosovo the whole of its military contingent. "The prerogative on the solution of the problem belongs to the Federation Council and the president," he added.
