Shaimiyev says Russia may join Nato but in distant future

KAZAN, March 6 (Itar-Tass) - Tatar President Mintimer Shaimiyev supported Russian Acting President and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's view on a possible alliance with NATO.

Shaimiyev told Itar-Tass on Monday that "Russia's accession to NATO is possible but not in the near future and only of certain conditions are met, primarily the recognition of Russia as a full-fledged partner, as Vladimir Putin told foreign journalists".
