Hungarian delegation at US Senate calls for rebuilding Novi Sad bridges
Washington, 25 January - A Hungarian parliamentary delegation visiting the United States, met Senate
Majority Leader Trent Lott on Monday, Jozsef Szajer, who heads the Fidesz (the leading
government party) parliamentary group, told MTI.
With regard to the
enlargement of NATO, Senator Lott termed Hungary's one-year membership successful, while
the Hungarian delegation stressed their support for the admission of Slovakia, Slovenia
Lott reiterated the U.S.
position that the American government will not provide any support for reconstruction
efforts as long as President Milosevic is in power. Nevertheless, Hungary brought up the
issue of rebuilding the bridges in Novi Sad, which Budapest defines as damage control and
new hazard prevention, and not as reconstruction, Szajer said.
