Hungarian delegation at US Senate calls for rebuilding Novi Sad bridges

Washington, 25 January - A Hungarian parliamentary delegation visiting the United States, met Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott on Monday, Jozsef Szajer, who heads the Fidesz (the leading government party) parliamentary group, told MTI.
With regard to the enlargement of NATO, Senator Lott termed Hungary's one-year membership successful, while the Hungarian delegation stressed their support for the admission of Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania
Lott reiterated the U.S. position that the American government will not provide any support for reconstruction efforts as long as President Milosevic is in power. Nevertheless, Hungary brought up the issue of rebuilding the bridges in Novi Sad, which Budapest defines as damage control and new hazard prevention, and not as reconstruction, Szajer said.
