Friday, April 21, 2000

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia--Serbian President Milan Milutinovic was released from the hospital Friday after heart bypass surgery, the state Tanjug news agency reported.

It said the 58 -year-old Milutinovic was recovering well after the April 10 operation.

A leading ally of Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, Milutinovic was elected president of Serbia in 1997. Serbia, the larger of Yugoslavia's two republics, is Milosevic's power base.

Milutinovic, along with Milosevic and three other Serbian officials, was indicted last year by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, in connection with atrocities committed by Serb forces during the conflict in Kosovo.
