Less than 1/4 of expatriate Kosovars to vote

GENEVA, Sep 13, 2000 -- (AFP) Just a quarter of expatriate Kosovars have been permitted to vote in the province's October 28 UN organized municipal elections, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday

IOM said 180,000 people living outside Kosovo had requested to vote, but only 38,000 were able to prove that they had lived in the province between January 1 1996 and January 1 1999.

Four thousand appeals were presently being examined by the United Nations administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) and by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Pristina, IOM said.
