28 YU parties nominated candidates for September polls

BELGRADE, Aug 29, 2000 -- (BBC) Text of report by Yugoslav state news agency Tanjug.

All Yugoslav leading parties have nominated candidates for upcoming parliamentary polls, showing that all necessary legal conditions exist for the polls to be democratic and fair, the Central Election Commission said on Monday [28th August].

The commission said that 21 political parties in Serbia and seven parties in Montenegro have nominated their candidates for the elections, called for 24th September.

At a session chaired by Commission Chairman Borivoje Vukicevic, the commission established that four Serbian parties meet requirements for giving representatives to an enlarged composition of the commission.

These are the Socialist Party of Serbia - Yugoslav Left [SPS-JUL]; the Serbian Radical Party [SRS]; the Democratic Opposition of Serbia [DOS] - Vojislav Kostunica; and the Serbian Renewal Movement [SPO].

The process of determining which Montenegrin parties qualify for being represented in the enlarged Central Electoral Commission is still in progress.
