Illegal weapons seized in Croatia, three arrested
SPLIT, Jul 14, 2000 -- (AFP) Arms and explosives destined for suspected terrorist organizations in western Europe were seized in a police raid in southern Croatia and three persons suspected of illegal arms trafficking were arrested, officers said Thursday.
"They (the three) were hiding explosive and arms in several locations and were delivering it through contacts with international terrorist organizations," police spokesman Edo Tauber told a press conference.
The three, who were arrested near the southern Croatian town of Split, face charges for smuggling arms from Bosnia-Herzegovina through Croatia to western European countries.
Tauber declined to say whether the three were also members of a suspected terrorist group or simply arms smugglers.
