A deal for the sale of Bulgaria's telecom monopoly BTC to a consortium made up of Greek OTE and Dutch KPN could face the most serious hurdles when it comes for approval before Bulgaria's Fair Competition Commission and the anti-monopoly body in Brussels, the newspaper said.

Miroslava Yanova, head of Bulgaria's MBMD sociological agency, told a local radio channel that early general election in Bulgaria was unlikely. Polls are due in April 2001.


Bulgaria fulfils just 10 percent of its export quota for fruit and vegetables to the European Union states, Agriculture Minister Ventsislav Varbanov said.


Bulgaria's industrial output is likely to continue falling this year as well, Deputy Prime Minister Petar Zhotev told the state radio. He said the decline was caused by delays in structural reform and privatization in the past 10 years.
