Sniper kills rival inside Albanian jail

TIRANA, Mar 10, 2000 -- (Reuters) An Albanian sniper killed a prisoner relaxing in the recreation room of a high-security jail in Tirana, the Justice Ministry said on Friday.

Ilir Bardhi, who was awaiting trial on charges of killing two men with an anti-tank missile, was the sixth victim of a feud between rival gangs within the past year.

Police caught the sniper and an accomplice as they tried to flee after the shooting on Thursday.

The sniper fired a single shot from the balcony of a building some 500 metres from the prison, through the window of the prison's third-floor recreation room.
