Kosovo peacekeepers arrest suspected killer of Russian soldier

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Yugoslavia, Mar 4, 2000 -- (AFP) International peacekeepers on Friday arrested an ethnic Albanian suspected of killing a Russian soldier of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), French General Pierre de Saqui de Sannes said.

A French officer who asked not to be named said the suspect was around 15 years old.

French gendarmes, with the support of UN police and the local population, also found the weapon used in the shooting Tuesday in the central town of Srbica, the general said.

The Russian, a driver who was waiting for a superior officer when he was shot, died of his wounds in a French military hospital Thursday.

He was the first KFOR soldier to die of wounds inflicted during an attack.
