Tisza ban slowly lifted

May 4, 2000

Government Commissioner, János Gönczy, announced the ban on replenishing fish reserves in the Tisza was to be lifted from May 2.

Gönczy said the current ban on angling would also be lifted, although this would not happen until June 16.

The Commissioner also reaffirmed that a lawsuit will be filed against Esmeralda, the Australian mining company whose plant spilled cyanide into the Tisza River in February.
