Kouchner accuses EU over Serb sanctions

The United Nations administrator in Kosovo, Bernard Kouchner, has criticised the recent decision by the European Union to lift the air embargo against Serbia.

He said the EU should have made such a move conditional on Serbia revealing the fate of the thousands of Kosovo Albanians who disappeared during the Kosovo conflict.

In an interview on French radio, he said the lack of information on the missing people was one of the main obstacles to the return of confidence between the Serbian and Kosovar communities.

He expressed particular concern at recent violence in the town of Mitrovica.

Earlier, the international peacekeeping force in Kosovo KFOR said a large stockpile of weapons and explosives had been seized in the Serb-dominated part of the town.
