By PAUL TERRYKosovars protest against go-home orders
Thursday 6 April 2000
More than 200 Kosovar refugees from the Bandiana haven near Wodonga silently marched more than four kilometres as heavy rain began to fall yesterday in what may be their last attempt to avoid being sent home on Saturday.
The group, including children, walked from the haven into central Wodonga, hoping their quiet protest would reverse the Federal Government's decision to cancel their temporary visas from midnight on Saturday.
One of the protesters, Mr Naser Vega, said the refugees feared persecution, or even death, if they returned to Kosovo. He said the Government's decision to allow some refugees to remain would split families.
