Nato's rhetoric on Chechnya leads to confrontation

MOSCOW, December 22 (Itar-Tass) - NATO countries' anti- Russian rhetoric regarding Chechnya "leads to confrontation with Russia", the head of the Defence Ministry's Main Directorate for International Military Cooperation, Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov said.

Ivashov told journalists on Wednesday that "excessive politicisation, and the West's information and political pressure do not help the fight against terrorism."

"The West has made a mistake," he said.

"We consider this as an attempt to distract the attention of society from the barbaric actions that NATO took in Kosovo," the general added.

"Russia is not only performing its internal function of fighting terrorism, but is also contributing to international stability," Ivashov said.

"We will most certainly solve this problem (of Chechnya)," he said.
